When I was 12, my parents took a caretakers job in Northern Wisconsin where we lived on a lake 17 miles from town. The old 1900 farm house sat deep in the woods, surrounded by untamed nature and wildlife. Our home was always saturated with all kinds of critters as long as I can remember. Yes, there were the cats and dogs, but we also had pet raccoons, a very large Mexican Yellow Head Parrot who swore up a storm, and any wild animal that needed rescuing. I was deeply influenced by this upbringing and I see it expressed when I create my art.
Over the years I have done many forms of artistic expression, but my love of copper started while living in the U.P. in Upper Michigan. Becoming a copper smith however started from an unexpected garage sale stop. Surrounded by tools and other treasures, was an old roll of copper tape and I thought, "Oh, I can make something with this"! So, I brought it home and created my first piece of copper jewelry. Over time, and through much trial and error, I taught myself a variety of metalsmithing techniques that I use today to make my one-of-a-kind jewelry that showcases my love of nature, animals, texture, design and color.
Also showcased in my shop you will find images of my pastel drawings. This form of creative expression is one of my later obsessions. I love the vibrancy and variety of the pastel color pallet and how the texture of the fine sandpaper brings my drawing to life.
Copper, with it's beautiful earthy tones, relates to a more primal part of our humanity.
It's a beautiful platform to express my creativity by transforming it into wearable art.
As new items come off the bench or drawing table I will add them to the shop, so be sure and check in often.
Thank you for visiting!
